Setting up a dressage Arena
22nd May, 2009
1. Establish where to position arenas by marking out 50 from 1st long side of arena 1 to 2nd long
side of arena 2—in the past we have managed 8m between
2. Arena closest to pipe seats first.
3. Place Peg 1 at corner to right of entry to arena 1
4. Stretch 60m tape to form straight edge of long side 1 of arena 1 and leave tape in place on
ground
5. Person 1 uses shorter tape to measure 20m from Peg 1 towards yet to be positioned Peg 3, and
draws a large arc with spray paint..
6. Person 2 takes short tape off peg 1, finds 20m from peg 1 on long side and holds tape in this position.
7. Person 1 measures 28.208m and finds where it dissects arc and establishes where Peg 3 is to be
positioned and places Peg 3
8. Then person 2 walks back to Peg 1 so that 1st short side can be established.
9. At this stage the helpers start laying pipes and witches hats from right of opening at A, around
corner, and along long side towards Peg 2
10. Position witches hats internal side of square base, approx 20 to 50 mm over straight edge (tape)
11. Person 2 walk along long side and mark with paint position of letters.
12. Person 1 places end of short tape over peg 2 and measures 20m.
13. When 1st long side is complete, walk tape to 2nd long side (end over peg 3) and place peg 4 at
last corner where 2 tapes dissect. Mark letter position with spray paint.
14. Continue laying pipes to peg 2, 4 and 3.
Each piece of pipe is 3m long excepting pipes with ends at each side of A and pipe at C with is 2m.
By counting sections of pipe, position of letters can be established—these positions can be marked with
line marking paint.
It is easiest to start laying pipe from A on the right, pipes with stops on end, and then to peg 1 and
peg 2.
